Executive Summary

The project developed a capability to identify the remote party to an Instant messaging (IM) chat session such as AIM, MSN messenger, Yahoo! messenger, Skype, IRC, and ICQ – which were convenient and popular tools to communicate with other people over the Internet. Through this project, the detection of IM communication channels using flow logs of traffic between IM users and IM service providers were developed.
